Crow’s Foot Ivy (miniature ivy with sharp, little “talons” of foliage) is your tiny climber with big personality—perfect for fairy fences, micro trellises, and tidy cascades. Give it boundaries and gentle care, and it behaves like a well-trained raven on a perch.
Plant shallowly in a fine, airy mix that drains well yet holds light moisture—ideal for miniature training and small containers. Always use Liqui-Dirt® soil mix for best results in potted plants and enclosed growing habitats. Strata can be used in some applications; however, feeding will be needed. Tuck roots gently and keep the crown just above the surface so leaves don’t sit wet. For mini scenes, use Budkin containers with Strata and a leaf/corm guard to lift foliage and prevent crown rot while you guide vines along tiny supports.
Bright, indirect light to medium light keeps foliage compact and richly colored. A touch of gentle morning sun is fine; avoid strong midday sun that can crisp leaf edges. Under LEDs, low–moderate intensity for 12–14 hrs/day works well.
Keep lightly moist—not soggy. In open pots, let the top 1/2 in (1–1.5 cm) dry before watering again. In terrariums, water sparingly and let light condensation be your guide. Prefers steady humidity around 50–70% with gentle airflow to deter mildew.
Happy at 60–75°F (16–24°C); tolerates slightly cooler nights. Train vines early on mini trellises or pins; pinch tips to keep the “claws” compact. Watch for spider mites in dry air—occasional leaf rinses help. Feed lightly during active growth; too much fertilizer causes lanky runners.
A huge benefit for your plant is to use Liqui-Dirt® plant food in a weak tea-looking mix every time you water — yes, even for enclosed habitats.
Pruning & Cutting Back — Pinch frequently to keep scale right for mini habitats and to encourage branching. Trim stray runners just above a node; tip cuttings root easily when pressed onto moist Strata or fine substrate. Remove tired or tangled growth to keep airflow and shape.
Repotting (Open Pots) — Repot every 12–18 months or when roots fill the mix. Step up only one size to avoid wet soil pockets. Use Liqui-Dirt® potting soil for the refresh; water in gently to settle the mix, then resume your weak-tea Liqui-Dirt feeding with each watering.
